Audio Engineer Extraordinaire
Richard has been the lead Recording and Mixing Engineer with superstar artists such as, U2, Prince, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Barbara Streisand. Not too shabby.
A few years ago, while on a ski trip at Mammoth with my son, I stumbled upon my first "Silent Disco" experience. We got out of the gondola at The Village and saw about a hundred people outside in the cold night air, wearing neon glowing headphones, seemingly having the time of their lives, dancing & singing "Sweet Caroline" at the top of their lungs.
We were each handed a pair of headphones and instantly joined the high-fidelity party, dancing, singing and laughing. For some reason, I felt unusually uninhibited and surprisingly connected with this joyous crowd of strangers.
Being a serial entrepreneur, I told my son later that night that I was going to do SOMETHING, something different, with that headphone technology.
Two of my favorite things in life are live music and being in the great outdoors at beautiful locations, like the beach, mountains and desert. Could the headphone technology work with LIVE MUSIC, a full band, rather than a DJ? If so, what would be the maximum headphone reception range? Could we power a concert with batteries and solar power and do "silent" concerts anywhere? I didn't have a clue.
I recruited a talented audio engineer (Adam Lawson), and we spent the next 6 months researching, testing and investing in the technology. Digital wireless mixers, audio software, radio frequency transmitters & headphones, high-powered RF antennas, overseas sourcing and importing...
One year and one pandemic later, we now have an impressive and growing team of incredibly talented, experienced and kind people, motivated and inspired to bring Outdoor Live Music Headphone Experiences...to the world.
